Boca Dance Studio Company News

Established in 1991, the Star Dancers have performed at sea on Carnival Cruise Line, in an Off-Broadway show in New York City, at Disney's Magic Kingdom, in workshops in Las Vegas, Long Beach and Orlando as well as charity events such as the Cancer Association's Relay for Life and "Sentimental Journey" for Multiple Sclerosis. They have performed locally for community events such as the Meet Me Downtown Festival, Teen Cabaret, North Broward Preparatory School "Halloween Happenings", the Choreographers' Ball and many more. At competition the company has earned numerous High Score Awards as well as Overall Soloist and Overall Group titles, Best Choreography, Best Costume and Entertainment Challenge Champion.

Company dancers follow an accelerated training program and spend the winter and spring performing and competing locally. In addition, members attend dance conventions and live dance performances and take master classes offered exclusively to them.

COMPANY CALENDAR 2008-2009

Dates are mandatory for ALL company members. All days and times are TBD.
Competitions release their schedules 7-10 days prior to the event – dancers must hold ALL competition days open until schedule is released.

Spray bottle with water
Brush and/or comb
Hair Pins (u-shaped)
Bobby pins
Hair elastics (clear or matching your hair color please - no colors or scrunchies)
Fine hair nets matching your hair color (no crocheted or colored hair nets)
Hairspray

Some Dancers will Need:

Snap clips (for layered hair, match your hair color please - no metallics or colors)
Blow dryer
Flat iron
Curling iron
Gel, spray gel etc.

Mary Poppins - Wig and hat
Bert - Hair up and hat
Jane Banks - Hair down and hat
Michael Banks - Hair up and hat
Mrs. Banks - Hair up

London Schoolgitls - Hair down and hat
London Townspeople Group 2 - Hair up

All "Hair down" styles should have the front section of hair pulled back from the face so that hair is half up. Hair should be loosely curled at the ends with a curling iron.

All "Hair up" styles for Bert, Michael Banks, Mr Banks, Townspeople Groups 4 and 5 should be a ponytail pinned up inside your hat - not a bun if possible.

All "Hair Up" styles for Mrs. Banks and Townspeople Group 2 should be a low bun with no part.

Rehearsal: 12:00 - 5:00 - This is a closed rehearsal. No observers, no exceptions.

  • Parents, please be on time for drop off and pick up. Thanks!
  • Dancers, wear black dance clothes for rehearsal (leotard, Soffe shorts, dance pants etc. - tan tights/shoes are fine) and bring jazz shoes only. You will not need any other shoes!
  • Bring a snack and a drink for breaks only; please leave the dance room as you found it. Pick up all trash and collect your belongings - we cannot be responsible for items left behind at BCC

Makeup Meeting: 2:00PM - Parents Attend Please

  • New company members must attend the makeup meeting with all their makeup for a practice session and Q and A. Old company members using eyelashes for the first time are also welcome.

Directions via I-95 South:
Exit Atlantic Blvd west to NW 31 Ave. Turn right and go to Coconut Creek Parkway. Turn left - go to first light after Turnpike overpass and turn left into campus. Follow signs to OMNI - Dance Lab is adjacent to OMNI by restrooms.
